develop skills in their field of specialisation. This may include
work placements, international language and study tours, and
final-year capstone units that bring together the skills and

Nimali De Silva — Bachelor of Accounting and Financial Services
Why did you choose to study
business and management?
I chose this degree because I wanted to
study at the University of Wollongong
due to its excellent reputation not only in
business-related education but as a
university as a whole. I have always
wanted to be in business, especially
accounting and financial services, so
this degree is a perfect match for me.
What is the best thing about your course?
This is a new degree that has strong links with the business
industry and government. There are two whole subjects
dedicated to an industry project so I am looking forward to
working with organisations on specific business problems in
order to find sustainable solutions. We’ll get to develop
business plans, write proposals and financial reports, and
conduct market research. Another great thing about this
course is the class size. With only 40 students in my degree, I
am not only able to get to know my fellow classmates really
well but I can also develop a great rapport with my lecturers.
Plus, the view from my classrooms is so amazing — I love it!
What does your course involve?
My course involves lectures, tutorial classes and internships
with industry. The timetable is great, as the lectures and
tutorials are mainly on the same days so there is enough time
for a casual job outside my studies if I want to work.
What kind of job would you like to do when you
After graduating, I hope to be employed as an accountant,
finance manager, finance consultant or research officer in a
leading business establishment or in a leading bank. The field
of accounts and finance is ever changing and expanding in
the world with the passage of time, and as such offers
increasing job prospects for graduates and professionals to
open up new avenues of business and ensure their
development and progress.
What are your job prospects after graduating? Do you
think you will find work in your field?
I am confident that I will be in a position to secure
employment in this field in my native country (Sri Lanka) or in
the international arena.
Will you complete further study?
While employed I hope to complete further studies and obtain
a masters degree, leading to a doctorate and moving into
